Beamer Memorial Conservation Area + Doors Open Grimsby (12 km @ 3.5 km/hr) (9/23/2017)

Itinerary:

Note: Drivers will get preference on the waiting list. I'll increase the maximum number of participants as we get more drivers.

We'll meet at the Kipling station at 9:00 am, and drive to the Beamer Memorial Conservation Area in Grimsby (While signing up, please select "Meet at carpool" option if you're meeting us at Kipling). You can also meet us at the Conservation Area, at 10:15 am. (Please select "Meet at event" in this case)

As part of this hike, we'll traverse the Beamer Memorial Conservation Area and a part of the Bruce trail. We'll visit a couple of Doors Open sites, including the Grimsby Museum, Sentimental Farm, and Fire Station 2.

The hike path is uneven, although we will walk on flat roads at a few places. The total distance is around 12 km. We'll walk at 3.5 km/hr, although you can walk faster if you want.

Required Items to Bring:
  • Water
  • Appropriate footwear and clothing (check weather forecast on the day)

Carpool passengers:

  • Cash for carpool (around $10-$13, depending on the number of passengers per car)
  • Post-hike footwear / bag for soiled footwear (to help keep the cars clean)

Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $41.28 (calculated at total Km * $0.258, effective Thursday, April 18, 2024). This is based on $0.08/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Your event coordinator will confirm exactly how much money is required from each person.

Notes:
  • The hike will go in case of light rain (possibly with changed route). It'll be canceled in case of a severe thunderstorm.
  • Dog owners bring their own cars (or find drivers who are willing to let dogs inside their vehicles). The Beamer Memorial Conservation Area requires the dogs to be on leash. The Doors Open sites may or may not allow dogs inside.
