Dundas Valley on Scarecrow Saturday (14 km @ 3.5 km/hr) (10/29/2016)

Itinerary:

Note: Drivers will get preference on the waiting list. I'll increase the maximum number of participants as we get more drivers.

We'll meet at Kipling Station at 9:00 am, and then drive to Dundas Downtown (23 Hatt Street, Hamilton, ON L9H 2E9). From there, we'll take the Spring Creek Trail to the Dundas Valley trail centre. Next, we'll visit take the Bruce Trail to Sherman Falls. Finally, we'll take the Monarch trail to the parking spot.

The town of Dundas will be celebrating "Scarecrow Saturday", which features scarecrow creations by the local merchants, among other interesting things. After getting off the trail, we'll spend some time exploring Dundas.


Required Items to Bring:
  • Water
  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • Hiking-appropriate footwear

Carpool passengers

  • Cash for the carpool cost (around $10 per person; the exact amount will depend on the number of passengers)
  • Post-hike footwear (to help keep the cars clean)

You can meet us at either of these places:

9:00 am (Meet at Carpool): Kipling Station Passenger Pick- up and Drop-off (the circular structure outside the TTC station), off Aukland Rd at Subway Crescent, off Dundas St (Map) . Carpool departure at 9:05 am. TTC Line 1 Yonge-University will be closed between St George and Lawrence West. Please plan your journey accordingly.

10:00 am (Meet at Event): City of Hamilton Parking Lot 7D: 23 Hatt Street, Hamilton, ON L9H 2E9 (Map).

Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $33.54 (calculated at total Km * $0.258, effective Tuesday, April 16, 2024). This is based on $0.08/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Your event coordinator will confirm exactly how much money is required from each person.

Notes:
  • This hike will go on in case of moderate rain. It'll be canceled only if a severe thunderstorm is forecast.
  • Dog owners bring their own cars (or find drivers who are willing to let dogs inside their vehicles). Dogs are required to be on leash within the Dundas Valley Conservation Area.
