The Bronte Creek Provincial Park is a great place for hiking, and it's celebrating its annual Maple Syrup Festival in March. Here are some photos from the last year.

We'll first reach the Day Use Area of the Park, and explore the Festival for an hour or so. There will be a guided tour of the Maple Lane, where people in vintage costumes will demonstrate how to tap maple trees, make maple syrup and maple sugar. In addition, you can visit the small maple museum and the century-old Spruce Lane Farmhouse.

We'll then hike through the Carolinian forest along the Bronte Creek to reach the Campground Area of the park.

Note:

  • There is a fee of $17 per vehicle, which will be shared by the group. E.g. if we've 3 cars and 12 passengers, everyone pays ~$5; If we've 3 cars and 9 passengers, everyone pays ~$6 (this is what is indicated in the "member cost" below). This is in addition to the carpool cost, which will be around $5-$6.
  • This hike is not same as my 2015 hike at Bronte Creek, which was relatively short (and cut even shorter because of the trail condition). This time, the plan is to cover the left side of the river as well.
  • Within the park, there is no bridge across the Bronte Creek to cross over to the other side. So, around 1/4th of our hike will be along semi-urban / urban-ish paths. Also, this means that the path will not be a loop: Before we start our hike from the Day Use Area, some drivers will take their cars to the Campground Area of the Park (~6 km drive), and return to the Day Use Area in one car. We'll end our hike at the Campground Area. The drivers will use the cars parked their to get back to the cars parked in the Day Use Area.

Required Items to Bring:
  • Water
  • Lunch/Snacks or cash to buy small meals (pancakes etc.) available at the Park
  • Weather-appropriate clothing and footwear (at the time of posting, the forecast is 7°C -- cloudy but no rain)

For carpool passengers:

  • Post-hike footwear (to help keep the cars clean)
  • ≈$10-$12 in cash for the carpool + entry fee
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
  • Camera
