Last of the foliage on RBG trails (15 km @3.5 km/hr) (10/18/2014)

Note: Drivers will get preference on the waiting list. I'll increase the maximum number of participants as we get more drivers. You can also meet us directly at Rock Chapel/Borer's Falls parking lot - I'll move you to the attendee list.

This is a D3 photo hike (you're welcome even if you don't have a camera, but want to participate in a slowpoke hike). As part of this hike, we'll cover trails in the following Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) properties in Hamilton:

  • Hopkins Woods
  • Rock Chapel Sanctuary
  • Borer's Falls Conservation Area
  • RBG Arboretum
  • Cootes Paradise

The path:

  1. Follow the Bruce trail in Rock Chapel Sanctuary
  2. Follow the rock exhibits at the Armstrong Trail
  3. Get off the trail and descend down the escarpment, to visit the woods that one can see from the top of the Borer's Falls.
  4. Folow the Rock Chapel trail to visit the Borer's Falls.
  5. Follow the Ray Lowes trail to the Hopkins Woods.
  6. Follow the Pinetum/Grey Doe trails to the RBG Arboretum.
  7. Follow the Captain Cootes Trail in Cootes Paradise
  8. Follow the Bull's Point trail to come back to Borer's Falls Conservation Area
  9. Follow the Ray Lowes/Bruce trails to come back to the parking lot


Required Items to Bring:
  • Water
  • Lunch/Snacks
  • Hiking / Running shoes
  • Post-hike footwear (only for the carpool passengers: to help keep the cars clean)
  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • Money for the carpool

You can meet us at either of these places:

9:00 am: Kipling Station Passenger Pick-up and Drop-off (the circular structure outside the TTC station), off Aukland Rd at Subway Crescent, off Dundas St ( Google Maps)

9:50 am: Rock Chapel / Borer's Falls parking lot near 318 Rock Chapel Rd, Dundas, ON L9H 5E2. (Google Maps)

Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $29.67 (calculated at total Km * $0.258, effective Thursday, April 25, 2024). This is based on $0.08/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Your event coordinator will confirm exactly how much money is required from each person.

Notes:
  • This hike will go on in case of moderate rain. It'll be canceled only if a severe thunderstorm is forecast.
  • There are no washrooms along the path. Trees and bushes are your best friends.
