Itinerary:

The terrain is variable, with hilly and rocky sections, and some impressive cave formations. Distance is about 20 km. We'll keep to an invigorating pace of 4.5km an hour.

Please note that we will very likely experience significant amounts of ice on the trail, with the low temperatures to date, the snow and ice is retreating at a much slower rate than usual. Therefore, for your safety, and to make sure that you don't hold up other members of the group, it is mandatory that you bring icers, you must bring icers to come on this event. The icer is held to your boot with straps, and keeps you from slipping and sliding. You can purchase good quality icers at MEC.

This hike is suitable for intermediate hikers who like to step up the pace a bit. It is not suitable for beginners. Hikers coming on this event are expected to have D4 level hiking experience. If you don't have a history with the TOC, please include some comments in the notes about your hiking background to convince me that you can keep up.

A loop hike starting from the skiers' parking lot on Grey Rd 2, we will descend the Escarpment on the Metcalfe Crevice Side Trail through a rocky gorge 30m high, visit the Crevice Caves at Metcalfe Rock, pass the base of Pinnacle Rock, and return via the Chuck Grant Side Trail and a few of the Kolapore Uplands ski trails.

Members willing to drive, regular D4 hikers and members with favourable attendance records may get first priority on the wait list. Passengers will be added as drivers become available.
