Itinerary:

This walk along the Waterfront is a good D4 hike for the beginners, as public transit, washrooms and other facilities will always be near.

We'll meet at the Toronto Union station (10:30 AM) and take the Lakeshore West GO train (10:43 AM) to the Long Branch GO Station.
You can also come directly to the Long Branch GO Station at 11:00 AM (the train arrives at 11:02 AM).

Please use the notes field to state where you'll be meeting us: Union Station or the Long Branch Station.

We'll start walking at 11:05 AM, and cover a substantial portion of the Waterfront trail. We'll stop for lunch somewhere around Port Credit. We'll say goodbye to the Waterfront trail at the Rattray Marsh Conservation Area, and end our journey at the Clarkson GO Station.

This is not a loop hike. You'll have to catch the GO train from Clarkson for returning to Toronto.

The trail goes through landscaped gardens for the most part, with the exception of the Rattray Marsh Conservation Area and a few small portions of wilderness. For the most part, we'll walk through the waterfront gardens, historical buildings and at times, urban-ish areas. If we're lucky, we can spot some deer in the Rattray-Clarkson area (I saw a couple of them the last time I was there).

The complete path:

  • Long Branch GO station
  • Maurice J. Breen Park
  • Marie Curtis Park: A hidden gem on the western border of Toronto. You've to be here just after the Summer to experience its real beauty, though.
  • Lakeview Park
  • Douglas Kennedy Park: It has a nice boardwalk that runs along the Douglas Kennedy Headland.
  • Lakefront Promenade Park: A beautiful marina-facing development.
  • A.E. Crookes Park
  • RK McMillan Park: A headland with a naturalized landscape; originally a small wooded open space
  • Adamson Estate, listed on the Canadian Register of Historic Places
  • Hiawatha Park
  • Tall Oaks Park
  • St. Lawrence Park
  • JJ Plaus Park
  • Port Credit
  • J.C. Saddington Park
  • Ben Machree Park
  • Rhododendron Gardens: Sadly, this is not the best time to see the Rhododendrons blooming
  • Richard's Memorial Park
  • Jack Darling Memorial Park
  • Rattray Marsh Conservation Area: The last remaining lakefront marsh between Toronto and Burlington
  • Meadow Wood Park / Bradley Museum (we won't go inside the museum)
  • Clarkson GO Station Rail

The hike is D4 because of the distance (20 km) and the speed (4.5 km/hr - we may slow down depending on the trail condition and the weather).
