Hike to FREE Tour of the Historic Elgin Theatre - 6k (10/12/2013)

Itinerary:

"Join us for special, free guided tour of the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre as part of the 100th anniversary Celebration Week! Tours of this National Historic Site – the last operating double-decker theatre in the world – last for 1.5 hours and recount the history and restoration of the complex. Visit the original and new lobbies, the elegant Elgin Theatre, the unique and resplendent Winter Garden Theatre and samples from the world’s largest collection of vaudeville scenery. As well, a backstage exhibit housing the Winter Garden’s original Simplex Silent Film Projector and a dressing room containing artifacts from the time period are on view."

The hike terrain is easy, except for one set of stairs. Do the stairs at your own pace. Total distance 6k, with a pace of 4 to 4.5 kph.

Start at Pape Station and follow this route:

  1. Through Withrow Park
  2. West on Bain
  3. Riverdale Park
  4. Across Pedestrial Bridge
  5. Through Riverdale Farm
  6. West along Carlton
  7. Through Allan Garden's
  8. West on Gerrard to Jarvis
  9. South through Ryerson's Kerr Hall Park
  10. South on Victoria St to Dundas St East
  11. South on Yonge St to the Elgin Theatre
  12. Queen Subway is a 5 mins walk

Pape Station is just north of Danforth Ave on the east side of Pape Ave. Meet inside beside the Ticket Collector.
