SPRING PADDLING IN FRONTENAC

Trip has been changed so we are driving up Friday night + camping at the outfitters

Frontenac is a beautiful semi-wilderness park in Eastern Ontario. This is a weekend for experienced TOC paddlers who are nature enthusiasts and serious about wildlife photography. We'll get the chance to see the early spring flowers blooming, birds migrating, photo the moon, and if we're lucky we'll come across some of the 38 species of mammals that call Frontenac home.

This trip is not for beginners as no instruction will be given.

Spring time can bring many surprises, so we'll need to be prepared for drastic changes in weather and expect the unexpected! You will need to supply / rent all your own gear. Depending on interest, food may be shared. We will paddle for several hours a day, and there are a couple of longer (+750m) portages. Once we set up camp and collect firewood there will be opportunity for afternoon hikes along Frontenac's backpacking trails.

The water will still be very cold and it may be windy on the open lakes. On the plus side, the late spring might mean we won't see many black flies - bring a bug suit and plenty of insect repellant just in case! Rumour has it there is terrific fishing in the park - you are responsible for obtaining a valid fishing licence + for safety reasons please do not fish while there is gear in the boat. (!!)

Priority will go to people who have been on previous photo/backcountry events with me and a minimum of 5 TOC events.
Otherwise, please email me the following info when you sign up...
*What canoe trips have you been on in the last year or so? ( How many days, where, etc)
*Where did you learn to canoe (do you have any ORCKA certificates etc)
*How would you rate your swimming ability without a PFD
*Have you ever practiced canoe rescues?
*What backcountry gear do you have - bag/mat//tent/stove/water purification/pack etc
If you don't send me specific info I will have to assume you have no experience and will delete you :)
Please do not sign up if you are not a good swimmer. If your boat capsizes or you slip on rocks and fall in the water without a PDF you put yourself at risk and may endanger other members of the group.
