FRENCH RIVER PADDLING WEEKEND

French River Provincial Park is gorgeous. Barren pinkish rock, relatively calm waters and lots of wildlife. There will be plenty of opportunities to explore.

YOU WILL NEED TO BOOK OFF FRIDAY AUG 31!!
Please do not sign up if you can't get the day off. We will carpool up on Friday and paddle to our first campsite. Saturday, Sunday and Monday will be spent exploring the park. We will return to the city late (9pm) on Monday night. Canoes are red, 16 foot Nova Crafts. They are made with Kevlar composite and weigh 58 lbs. Each canoe comes with paddles, lifejackets and a safety kit (rope + bailer) Depending on water levels we may have to portage, although hopefully we can avoid that.

In order to secure your place from the waiting list you must send in your payment and then you will be added to the event, depending on space. Drivers will get priority. Payment is not refundable after August 10 unless someone takes your place.

DIFFICULTY RATING: Participants must be experienced, self sufficent paddlers with solid swimming skills; this is not a trip for beginners who have not canoed before. No canoeing instruction will be given! If you have not been canoeing with me before please email me with the following information when you sign up or you will be removed from the list:
*Swimming ability and experience on northern lakes
*Previous multiday canoe trips - distance, days, were you bow or stern, water/weather conditions
*Last time you practiced a canoe rescue (describe)

FOOD: Food will be vegetarian and shared, and participants will all be expected to share cooking and campsite duties. We will have a mandatory premeeting Tuesday August 14th at 7pm at the Twisted Kilt, at Yonge + Davisville, 1954 Yonge St. http://thetwistedkilt.ca/ to discuss food, shared gear, carpooling etc. Please do not sign up if you cannot make the premeeting. To save on carpool costs please travel light and make sure all your gear can fit in ONE pack.
