TEMAGAMI PADDLING WEEKEND

One spot left for this trip. You must send me your deets below and payment has to be in immediately if you want to come...

Temagami is one of my favourite places to paddle, it's still a relatively undeveloped wilderness. This is a great opportunity to get to canoe an area the TOC hasn't traditionally run trips! We be paddling a shortish route from Iceland Lake ->Driftwood Lake -> Wasaksina Lake -> Shiningwood Bay that let's us avoid a lot of the bigger windier lakes. There will be plenty of opportunities to explore and watch for wildlife.

YOU WILL NEED TO BOOK OFF FRIDAY AUG 3!! Please do not sign up if you can't get the day off. We will carpool up on Friday and take a shuttle from the outfitters to our put-in. Friday we'll paddle to Wakaskina where we'll camp for two days, taking day trips to neighbouring lakes (with portages). Sunday we will paddle to the western end of Shiningwood Bay. Monday we will paddle back to the outfitter. There will be 3 portages on Monday - 435m, 410m, 130m. Expect to be back in the city by 9pm, depending on traffic. Canoes are 16ft ultralite kevlars.

In order to secure your place from the waiting list you must send in your payment and then you will be added to the event, depending on space. Drivers will get priority. Payment is not refundable after July 19th unless someone takes your place. We will be camping on Crown Land, which is free to residents of Canada. If you are not a resident or are unsure of your status you will need to contact MNR (Ministry of Natural Resources) directly.

DIFFICULTY RATING: Participants must be experienced, self sufficent paddlers with solid swimming skills; this is not a trip for beginners who have not canoed before. No canoeing instruction will be given! If you have not been canoing with me before please email me with the following information when you sign up or you will be removed from the list:
*Swimming ability and experience on northern lakes
*Previous multiday canoe trips - distance, days, were you bow or stern, water/weather conditions
*Last time you practiced a canoe rescue (describe)

FOOD: Food will be vegetarian and shared, and participants will all be expected to share cooking and campsite duties. We will have a mandatory premeeting Tuesday July 24th at 7pm at The Stout Irish Pub on Carlton to discuss food, shared gear, carpooling etc. Please do not sign up if you cannot make the premeeting. To save on carpool costs please travel light and make sure all your gear can fit in ONE pack.

PFDs: TOC policy is that PFDs (personal flotation devices) must be worn in the canoe at all times, no exceptions
