Itinerary:

Event Description:

Join us for the Family Day weekend in the Adirondack Mountains of eastern New York State. Lake Placid is at the heart of the High Peaks area, and was the host city for the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympic Games.

We will be x-country skiing both Saturday and Sunday.

If a car-load also wishes, a group can go down-hill skiing - details can be researched if there are sufficient numbers wanting to do this.

There will be the option of Ice-Climbing on Saturday or Winter Hiking on Sunday - please indicate in the notes when you sign up if you are interested in Ice Climbing as a reservation will need to be made with the guide company for the number wanting to climb.

The itinerary for the weekend will be:

  • Fri, Feb 17 - Drive Toronto to Lake Placid (approx 6 hours)
  • Sat, Feb 18 - Cross-country skiing or Ice Climbing or Down-hill skiing
  • Sun, Feb 19 - Cross-country skiing or Winter Hiking or Down-hill skiing
  • Mon, Feb 20 - Drive Lake Placid to Toronto (approx 6 hours)

Accommodation is in a self-contained log house so communal meals can be prepared by the group, or we can eat out, as the group chooses. Everyone will have their own bed, unless a couple indicates they would like to share. Photos of the house can be viewed on-line.

We will be skiing on the Mt Van Hoevenberg Olympic trails.

Ice-climbing will be through Adirondack Rock and River Company. All safety equipment - ropes, crampons, helmets, ice-axes will be provided.

Previous experience with the TOC is mandatory.

Note that we will be travelling on the Friday which is not a holiday, so you will need to make appropriate arrangements with your employer.
