Itinerary:

Come and join us for a fun-filled weekend at the Wolf Den Bunkhouse at Oxtongue Lake near Algonquin Park.

We will be x-country skiing (and possibly snowshoeing if enough people want to) in Algonquin Park on Saturday, and at Arrowhead Provincial Park on Sunday. Equipment for Saturday can be rented from Algonquin Outfitters which is close to Wolf Den and at Arrowhead on Sunday - rates at both are more expensive than they would be if you get a weekend package from MEC.

Note: we will NOT be returning to Wolf Den after we leave to ski on Sunday, so please, do NOT get a weekend rental package from Algonquin Outfitters as their gear MUST be returned on Saturday evening or before breakfast on Sunday morning (9.00am).

The Wolf Den has a fully equipped kitchen with a microwave oven, toasters, kettles, dishes, and utensils for us to use. They also supply blankets, all bed linen and towels, and there's a sauna on site; you may want to bring your own pillow if you're fussy.

We have 2 single rooms, a double and a triple in the main lodge, and a quad bunkhouse; note that there will be a $10 per night surcharge for the single rooms ($20 in total). Please indicate in the notes when you sign up if you would like a private room and they will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

We will be sharing the facilities (kitchen, sauna, fireplace, etc.) with other guests at the lodge.

Dinner on Friday night will be up to each individual/carload - Barrie, Orillia and Huntsville offer a choice of eating places. We'll prepare breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, and dinner for Saturday night (these meals are included in the cost). Each participant will be responsible for his/her lunches for the weekend; again, please note that we will not be returning to the lodge at lunchtime on Sunday so you must prepare a packed lunch for that day.

There will be no formal pre-meeting for this event; food planning will be sorted by email once the final list of participants is known. Carpool arrangements will also be sorted closer to the date; if we can avoid people having to go to Downsview, we'll try and accomplish that.

  • Hat, gloves/mittens
  • Warm clothing for 2 days of outdoor activity (layers STRONGLY recommended)
  • Apres-ski clothes
  • Personal toiletries
  • Pyjamas - shared accommodation!
  • Slippers or soft shoes for use around the lodge - no outdoor footgear beyond the front porch!
  • Lunches for Saturday and Sunday
  • Water bottle and/or thermos flask
  • Backpack or bum-bag
  • Bathing suit (for the sauna)
  • Snacks

Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $139.32 (calculated at total Km * $0.258, effective Monday, May 6, 2024). This is based on $0.08/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Your event coordinator will confirm exactly how much money is required from each person.

Notes:

- Registration is NOT COMPLETE until you've signed up and paid by the registration cut off date. The money must be in the TOC's possession by that date. No exceptions.
- When a minimum group size appears, this is to let you know that the event will be cancelled with full refunds to those who have already paid, if the minimum number of registered participants is not met. For any events where TOC needs a minimum number of participants, there will be absolutely no refund of money if you cancel.
- We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines at all times while participating in TOC events.
