Itinerary:
Have you always wanted to try camping but you’re just not sure about the whole tent / sleeping on the ground thing? Maybe it’s time to try a Yurt!
A yurt is a cross between a tent and a small cabin. It's got walls and a roof, lights and heat, and even bunk beds!

Each Yurt holds up to 6, but we’ll settle for a more comfortable 4 (so each person will have their own mattress).
NOTE: because I have no control over who signs up, we may have co-ed yurts. Don’t sign up unless you are willing to share the space with members of the opposite sex.

Mew Lake also offers year-round “comfort” stations, that is, toilets, sinks and showers in a heated space. The yurts are situated very close to the stations.

We'll be in Algonquin in early April. That means two things:
1. there will still be snow on the ground, and there might even end up being a lot of snow on the ground. We might need snowshoes for hiking.
2. there will be NO bugs. No bug spray, no bug hats/jackets required! Hooray!!

Our itinerary is:
Friday:
Meet at carpool.
Drive up and stop for dinner along the way.
Arrive at yurts and settle in for the evening.
Saturday:
Group breakfast
Weather and conditions permitting, we will hike around Provoking Lake (~ 16 km)
Alternate plans are to drive to a nearby day-use trail and hike it (10 km) or if hiking just isn’t in the cards, then we will practice survival skills (fire starting, orienteering etc).
Individual “trail lunch” will be taken at the appropriate time.
Group dinner
“Bonfire”
Sunday
Group breakfast
Pack up and drive to nearby day-use trail and hike (7.7 km)
Early dinner in Huntsville
Arrive back in TO mid-evening (but don’t make plans for Sunday night)

Note: there will be a mandatory pre-meeting on Tuesday, March 8, 2011. Details to follow.
