Itinerary:
South from Paris, the Grand River winds its way through the Galt and Paris moraines to Brantford. These moraines are gravel ridges deposited by lobes of the Wisconsin Glacier as it travelled through the area. This section has been designated an exceptional waterway by the province, due to its scenic values, water quality and biodiversity.

We will put in at Bean Park, just south of Paris, and take out some 20 Km downriver at the Cockshutt Bridge, south of Brantford. The estimated time to paddle this stretch is four to five hours, with time to explore and relax. There is one short, easy portage around the Wilkes Dam in Brantford. This route is considered suitable for Novice paddlers comfortable in moving water.

We will meet at 10AM at the river access at the Cockshutt Bridge in Brantford to pick up rental canoes from Heritage River Canoe & Kayak Company (see below). The outfitter will then shuttle us up to our put in at Bean Park in Paris.

If you sign up for this trip but have no boat, or no partner who has one, or no partner, you will be paired up with someone who may or may not have a boat. Should you be paired with someone with no boat, you will together be responsible to arrange a boat rental from Heritage River. The cost is $30.29 per person, and includes the shuttle.

Heritage River will also shuttle personally owned boats, as long as there are some rentals in the group. The cost for this is $25 per boat/ per paddling pair.

In the event we all provide our own boats, we will need to set up our own shuttle. Directions will be provided later should this scenario arise.

When you sign up, please indicate in the notes field if you have your own boat, or transportation for same, or seek to share a rental, or looking for a partner and you will be paired up.

All boats must be equipped as per Coast Guard regulations. We will carry out an inspection.
