Itinerary:
The Credit River remains largely untouched by the GTA expansion, though there are many old mill towns along its length. This stretch will pass through the villages of Inglewood, Cheltenham, Terra Cotta, Georgetown, and Norval. There are the remains of three original mill dams, otherwise the flow is mainly a long and continuous swift. This route continues to be used regularly by recreational paddlers and is described here.

We will meet at Willow Park in Norval, leaving cars to retrieve later, and begin at the arena in Inglewood. Almost immediately we will have to portage (river left) around a rock dam in the Caledon Golf and Country Club. There is an old dam, creating a chute, upstream of Boston Mills Road. A portage (river left) is required to avoid a chute at the old Haines Dam in Cheltenham. The old Paper Mill Dam in Georgetown requires another portage (river left) to avoid a restricted chute. We must turn right and briefly paddle upstream on the Silver Creek in order to exit at Willow Park in Norval. Do not attempt to navigate the Norval Dam.

The total distance is difficult to estimate but may be as long as 40km, and includes at least 3 short portages along the shoreline. Most if not all of the surrounding property is rural and floodplain, or otherwise undeveloped. We will pass under at least 10 road and rail bridges. It is approximately 2 hours from Inglewood to Cheltenham, another 2 hours to Glen Williams, and 1.5 hours to Norval.

The water in April will be high, fast, and cold. Otherwise the river is flat and shallow, with few natural obstacles. It is likely you will have to maintain control of your boat for long uninterrupted periods of time, without breaks, though the forward paddling may be non-existent.

There is no convenient provider of rental equipment. For those that have their own canoe, a partner may be provided, and vice-versa, or you may rent from MEC. Either way, transportation to and from the start and finish are the individual members' responsibility, and participation in general depends on the availability of roof racks.

If you have any suitable resources; your own boat, transportation for the same, or seek to share a rental with someone else, please say so in the notes field and you will be paired up.

The competancy of the paddler, as well as the preparedness of the boat will both be considered prior to participation. Every craft must carry the Coast Guard required equipment listed here and we will carry out an inspection.
