Itinerary:
With the fall colors beginning to appear, this ride is sure to be a splendid experience. The carpool departure is at 8:00 a.m. from the St. George and Bloor Street Subway Station Kiss and Ride (on the St. George St. side, NOT the Bedford Road side). Be sure to give yourself sufficient time to get to the carpool departure location by no later than 8:00 a.m., as the departure time is firm.

Note: Public transit may not be running that early; if it is not (check to be sure), you will have to get yourself to the car-pool departure point without public transit.

At 10:30 a.m., after driving to the Georgian Bay area, we will all meet in Collingwood, at Collingwood Harbour, Birch Street, which is roughly 1 km from where Highway 26 intersects High Street, to begin our bike ride. There is lots of parking available at Collingwood Harbour, Birch Street.

The Georgian Rail Trail runs from this starting point to Meaford Harbour, and is about 37 km one way. This trail has a well-maintained crushed limestone surface for cycling, and, for the most part, the trail is quite level.

The idea is to cycle all the way from Collingwood to Meaford and then back to Collingwood, for a total of about 75 km; therefore, some strength, fitness and endurance will be required, and we will be moving along at a fair clip (averaging about 20 km per hour). You should be able to keep up with this speed if you register for the event. This is NOT a ride for slowpokes or for people who have never ridden more than 50 km in one day.

On the way to Meaford, we will pass by the town of Thornbury, which has a beautiful harbour, historic buildings, and some fine shops and restaurants. We may stop briefly there for a look around town.

At Meaford Harbour, our turnaround point, we will stop for lunch and some well-deserved ice cream, and for a short stroll around the beautiful harbour area of Meaford.

Turn left at the Hwy. #26 West Stayner/Collingwood sign. Follow Hwy #26 to Stayner. Staying on Hwy. #26, you should then turn right at the lights in Stayner, where there is an Esso Gas Centre. Continue along Highway #26 to Collingwood.

When you get to Collingwood, be sure to stop at the Tim Horton's for a washroom break prior to reaching the starting point for the ride.
