Itinerary:

Are you ready for the first canoe trip of the season? Join Heather, my son Steven(15), my daughter Rebecca (17), Misty Morning (3) and me as we explore the south end of Algonquin Park on a spring canoe trip. The essence of Algonquin is in its vast interior of maple hills, rocky ridges, and thousands of lakes. The only way to explore the interior of this park is by canoe or on foot. This trip does both. The ice has just broken up in late April and the water is cold and fresh. The flies have not taken over yet!. Try some fishing? No swimming yet!

We will depart from the Whitby GO Station on Friday morning at 9AM and will be driving up to Algonquin Park (Canoe Lake). We will rent our canoes at the Canoe Lake Portage Store or Algonquin Outfitters. We will put in at Smoke Lake(south of the highway). Be prepared for a 4 day interior trip exploring small lakes and rivers. We will be covering 45 km in total. About 10-15 km a day at a casual pace. There will be 7 km of portages, 14 in total. The longest being 1460m. Pack and plan for the portages to be done in one trip. We will drive back to Whitby on Monday afternoon.

This trip is open to intermediate and advance experience canoeing individuals.

NOTE: Participants must wear their life jackets at all times while on the water for the duration of the trip.

Participants will be required to supply their own equipment i.e. backpacks, etc.

Required Items to Bring:
One canoe pack or backpack (with waterproof stuff sacks), shared tent, -5C sleeping bag, food, pot, rain gear, hat, gloves, etc. Plan on -5C conditions at night. Note, the previous two spring trips we had snow.
