Snowshoeing at Glen Major Forest (1/31/2009)

Itinerary:
Come and discover Glen Major Forest on the Oak Ridge Moraine in Uxbridge only 65 Km from Toronto.
We will be snowshoeing at a moderate peace (2.0 to 3.0 km per hour), on trails with some bushwhacking.
The plan is to cover ~10 Km loop with elevation gain of about 100 meters over this distance.

Lunch will be on the trail, somewhere with a view of the Oak Ridge Moraine and the surrounding countryside.

If you do not own snowshoes let Gary know, as he does have extra pairs that can be borrowed. Rentals are also available from Mountain Equipment Coop and Europe Bound.

The plan is to leave Glen Major Forest Trail Head at 2 pm. and we will be back at Downsview around 3 pm approximately.

Required Items to Bring:
Snowshoes.
Dress in layers for winter weather (expect to be out 4 hours).
Winter boots.
Lunch.
Water.
Recommended Items to Bring:

Poles.
Camera.

Follow Highway 401East to Brock Road in Pickering (Exit #399) (~37 km)
North on Brock Road (#1) for ~21Km to the village of Claremount.
Turn east on highway #5. Drive ~5km to small hamlet of Balsam. Turn north on Balsam road (4th Sideline Road). Drive north ~2km.
