Itinerary:
The Holidays really are about giving and what better present than that of your time? We're going to be volunteering with the Yonge Street Mission at their annual Christmas Market.

The Christmas Market takes place in their Community Centre which is right next to Regent Park and Cabbage Town. Community members who are in financial need and who have pre-registered with them will come to the Christmas Market. The community members are residents from Regent Park, Cabbagetown, St. Jamestown and youth at risk in the downtown core. They are a diverse group of people. We will be visited by individuals, couples and children.

Each person/family registers prior to arriving and has an appointment to “shop” at our Market and to get items at no charge to them.

Arrival Details:

Volunteers are asked to arrive promptly for their shift because upon arrival all volunteers will receive an orientation to the day. Just inform the main receptionist that you are here to volunteer and you will be guided to the orientation room.

Duties for Volunteers:

Volunteers will be assigned various duties to help the Market run as smoothly as possible. Duties can include: Guest Escorts; Greeters; Childcare Runners and Helpers; Runners; Coffee & Snack Hospitality Greeter; Box Cutters; Toy Room and Food Room Volunteers; Donation Sorters; Truck Unloaders.

We ask volunteers to remain flexible as some people may be asked to switch positions if the need becomes greater in a different area.

We will meet at the centre. Our volunteer shift is booked from 530PM-830PM. Look for me with a TOC sign.

Required Items to Bring:
Comfortable clothing to work in.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:By TTC (recommended mode): go to the College subway station and take the 506 Carlton streetcar east to Parliament Street. The streetcar will turn south at Parliament and you can exit at the first stop after the turn, which is Gerrard St E. Alternatively, you can exit at the Castlefrank subway station and take the 65 Parliament bus south to Gerrard. Taking the TTC is recommended due to limited parking options.

Limited Free Parking is available right beside our building on the west side – you must park parallel with the building or you may be ticketed. There is also limited parking available one block east at our Double Take store, 310 Gerrard St E (north side of Gerrard Street just east of Parliament Street). We will have a parking attendant at the lot so when you arrive tell the attendant that you are here to volunteer and they will try their best to accommodate your parking needs but we cannot guarantee parking spots for anyone.
