50. HUMBER HERRITAGE TRAIL (S NORTH) (13.5 KM) (9/23/2023)

You are STRONGLY encouraged to read this page in its entirety before signing up. If you'd like to attend, we ask that you abide by our rules and procedures as a time/cost saving process (with an end result of keeping membership free and lower cost events).

THE CARPOOL LEAVES SHEPPARD WEST STATION AT 8:45 AM

So, this is my third time coordinating this section of the Humber Valley Heritage Trail.
Today's hike will just be a simple in and out hikel

Please bring a lunch and at least 1-2 Litres of water.
We'll stop for lunch around the halfway point.

If you cannot walk the entire distance please do not sign up for this hike.

  • Terrain: Primarily single track dirt trails
  • Trail vs Road: 13 km vs 0.5 km
  • Elevation Range: 40 meters
  • Challenging Climbs of Note: 10 climbs of at least 25 meters
  • Largest Climb: 30 meters
  • Washrooms: None
  • Highlights: 'A nice walk in the woods'

Those willing to drive, will get first priority on the wait list, should they be needed.
DRIVERS, WHEN YOU SIGN UP, PLEASE ANSWER THE CARPOOL QUESTION REGARDING THE AMOUNT OF PASSENGERS YOU CAN TAKE IN YOUR CAR!!!

For those of you choosing to meet at the event location, instead of the carpool, please ensure that you come on time

I’ve set the maximum event count at 1 as I don’t want to add anyone to the event until I have enough carpool drivers to accommodate passengers.
I will try accommodate up to 25 people.


PRECAUTIONS AGAINST TICKS

  • Wear long pants.
  • Tuck your shirt into your pants, and pull your socks over your pant legs. Wear light coloured clothing to spot ticks more easily.
  • Use bug spray containing DEET or Icaridin on your skin and clothing.
  • Avoid tall grass.

    Check yourself for ticks immediately after the event, you can ask me for help for removal.
    When you get home, shower and do a full body check, if you find a tick, remove it with tweezers.
    If a tick is attached to your skin for less than 24 hours, your chance of getting Lyme disease is negligible.

    • $6.00 to $13.00 cash for passengers to cover the cost of the carpool

  • How to Get There:
    Event Directions:

    Approx Address: 14361 Duffys Ln - 43°53'19.5"N 79°46'26.3"W, which is a parking lot.

    Please note that my event directions are from SHEPPARD WEST STATION.
    To change the map to options that better suit you, please click "MORE OPTIONS" link the 'Driving Directions' map (below) and then you can add your own address into the search.

    • Leaving Sheppard West - take the Allen Road south to the 401.
    • Travel west along Highway 401 to Highway 409 (9 KM)
    • Merge with Highway 409 and follow it west for for approx. 4 KM.
    • Get on the 427 North and follow it 15 KM until the end at Major Mackenzie Drive.
    • Follow Major Mackeznie Drive WEST for 1 KM until Highway 50.
    • Turn right (NORTH) onto Highway 50 and follow for 12 KM.
    • At the roundabout, take the left exit onto Emil Kolb Parkway (RR 150) for 1 KM.
    • Turn right at the first road, Duffy's Lane and the parking lot will immediately be to the left.

    POTENTIAL WASHROOM STOP
    There's are a few options available, all on the left side of Highway 50, but have traffic light access.

  • There's a McDonalds located at Highway 50 & McEwan Dr W.
  • There's a Tim Hortons located at Highway 50 & Sterne St.
  • After finishing, just continue north on Highway 50 to the meet point.

    Please arrive on time, I will turn off my cell phone once the hike begins.
