Update: Portlands Energy Centre is no longer participating in Doors Open because of unexpected maintenance works. The route has been updated to include other (optional) sites.

Doors Open is an annual series of events, when a number of sites in Ontario communities open their doors to the general public. As part of this urban hike, we'll visit the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant, and optionally, other Doors Open sites:

We will meet outside the Main Street TTC Station at 09:30 am.

We will then walk through the Glen Stewart Ravine to reach the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant. We will spend around 45 minutes at the site, exploring the Pump House, the Filter Building, and the shore.

We will then walk along the lakeshore to the Portlands Energy Centre, where the hike will end. You can take a guided tour of the Centre, explore the nearby Tommy Thompson Park, or walk to the downtown and explore other Doors Open sites. The nearest TTC bus stop (Leslie St at Commissioners St) is 1 km away.

As the Portlands Energy Centre is now closed to the public, you are free to drop out at R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant. I plan to walk all the way to the Queens station, visiting the above-mentioned sites along the way. You are welcome to accompany me, and drop out at any point along the way. The total distance is 13.5 km (instead of the original 10 km).

The path is mostly flat, but there are steps to climb at the Glen Stewart Ravine. We will aim for a pace of 3.5 km/hr: feel free to walk faster.
