Happy Mother's Day!

We had perfect weather for this Mother's Day hike - sunshine and clear skies all day long. I've said before that I think Pretty River is - well, pretty - so much so that it is one of the best hikes on the Bruce Trail. This hike was no exception!

The five of us set out after a bit of confusion with meet up (we were a few hundred metres apart....heh), heading along the Pretty River Access Trail up to the main trail and the John Haigh Side Trail, where we passed the highest point on the Bruce Trail. We then followed the Petun Side Trail, where we disappointed to discover that the rock scramble and hike up the cliff (with ropes) has been rerouted away recently (so recently I haven't gotten the published notice yet)! Instead the trail heads up a nearby ski hill (steep!) to reach the top of the escarpment. We took in the view and then headed back to the main trail using a combination of side trails and main trail (this area is made for looping!).

The trilliums were at their peak - the forest floor was blanketed with them and other wild flowers, including some lilys and other types of flowers....that I can't remember the name of....this hike also confirmed the lingering suspicion that Moms may really know everything, since Leah and Marilyn were expert at flower identification! Nearby a small lake we also saw the remains of a dead coyote.

Happy Mother's Day again, and a huge thanks to everyone who came, especially our Moms, Leah and Marilyn!
