The weather man decided to through some rain and very warm weather at us a few days before our trip. We arrived at Algonquin park and there was a few inches of water covering all the ice on the lakes. So we switched to plan B. We found a closed off logging road and snowshoed down it.

There were lots of signs of moose prints and pooh. The snow was deep and wet.

We went in about 3.6km and set up camp.

The temepratures dropped at night to around -15C and the next morning we had some crush forming on the deep snow.

We decided to do day hikes due to the conditions. In the morning we headed NE, bushwhacking for a bit. It was hard going. We were breaking thought the crust into power snow and then catching the toe of the snowshow on the crust on the next step. Had a few near head plants. So we returned by the road and had lunch at camp.

A few of us went for an afternoon explore heading west down into a marsh and small river system. This was a real pretty view with the wind blowing the snow around the small lake. The ice was reforming but was only 1-2" thick. Judith tested this out downstream of a beaver dam where she got a partial soaker with one foot.

Back at camp we prepared for a -18C night.

Sunday morning came quickly and the snow was getting really crushy hard which made sleding/snowshoeing easy.

We headed home and had a late lunch in Huntsville.

See you all soon.
