We had a great group of people on this kayaking/camping adventure. A new member from Waterloo, a member new to the camping experience, a member who insisted he was fine without a therma rest but very thankful to have one, a great co-organizer so helpful he offered to show us a kayak rescue and all with an over abundance of enthusiasm. From Victor’s delicious steak, portabello mushroom, sausage and corn on the cob meal to the amazing potluck on Sunday, wow, we ate well! (sorry Michelle re the pecan pie) Oh, and I still haven’t found the oatmeal and raisin cookies so I’m guessing that raccoon did make off with something after all. Better that then the peameal!

I think we all had an amazing time, I know I did. Our guides, Sarah, Aaron, Meagan and Kailin were all wonderful and patient. Congrats to Nancy (was it Nancy?) who won the Ninji Turtle Game. And although I wasn’t there to witness Fariba’s rescue or both of them …good on you! Victor’s has been well documented…I’m sure he’ll post for all to see.

Luckily the weather held out for us with only the rain on Friday which we were much prepared for, well a few wet mishaps. Our wet exits all went off well. And although we had to battle a bit of wind and high waves we paddled through with grit and determination. Everyone paddled well! Some cramps and a few wind weary but we got to our dinner island destination in high spirits. Met with only a small(ish) water snake, had a great pesto meal and rested up for a much easier paddle home. And although we didn’t have a true moon-light paddle, the moon was shining down on us along with the sun for most of the trip back. Pretty wonderful I’d say. It was a long day though, back at around 9pm, but not so long that we didn’t stay up late around a great fire leaving Fariba to tend to it after we all went back to bed…till 3am!

I should mention the bear. Yup, behind campsite #723 a small cub was chewing away. Happy to say, no Mom was spotted but we did report it at the visitor center on our way home.

Thanks to all for making this an amazing weekend.

Sue
