All excuses aside, we agreed to consider this a learning experience. It was appropriate as we were shortly lost and made a fairly major mistake early on, wasting some time. Once we found our groove, the second hour was reasonably productive. In the final hour we got to experience the realities of competitive orienteering, where we passed by many points in an effort to make the finish, and ended up late anyway.
We managed to collect 540 points, and this placed us at 39 of 80 teams, even with a penalty for being 11 minutes late to the finish.
