There were four people on today's event. The weather was definitely A WINTER WONDERLAND... The snow was very pretty but it was suprisingly cold due to a windchill of -22C.

We started from King & Yonge St because of the construction at Union Station (Bay & Front St). We walked to the Distillery District but went south on Parliament to the Lakeshore Trail because the Cherry St East Entrance has been closed for months. We noticed that one lane of the street was open, so perhaps the east entrance is open again. Some of us will find out tomorrow when we hike to the Distillery District Christmas Market.

The Lower Don River near Lakeshore was frozen over. Around Queen St it was open water again and we saw a few male and female mallards.

We stopped at The Riverdale Farm for a bathroom break and to say a quick hello to the animals. The horse and donkey were in the south pasture. The ewes were in the barn. Staff told us that a baby was born this week but won't be in public view for a week or so.

The Wellesley Park stairs down to Rosedale Valley Rd were icy in places, but passable. The woods trail to Castle Frank Rd was in good shape and also passable. It wasn't icy.

We explored the Brickworks marsh again but we didn't see a muskrat this time, although we did see tracks on the ice. While there wasn't a lot of accumulated snow yet, the urge was great and we had to make a "snow angel". While you could see grass poking through, it was the first "snow angel" of the season. :)

After shopping at the Farmer's Market we all decided to take the Shuttle to Broadviews Station, as the wind picked up more and we were feeling chilled. Our total distance hiked was 10.5k.

$4.00 was collected in voluntary donations, plus one 2014 badge was sold. Thank you.
