We began our adventure waiting in line to enter the TTC Hillcrest Complex on a sunny, but cold and windy Saturday morning. We were allowed past the gates after a brief delay and then ushered into a waiting area at the Harvey Shops.

We were among the first tour group to go through that morning. We were given an inside look at the body and paint shop where streetcars and buses are restored like new after accidents and rusting. We also toured the truck repair section (streetcar wheel and motor pairing), blacksmith & metal fabrication shop, upholstery repair section, and the carpentry shop. (Did you know that the floors on subways, streetcars and buses are all wooden?)

After we finished the tour we started the outdoor portion of the event; the 10km hike of the Hillcrest Village area. Notable stops included the private enclave of Wychwood Park, a snack break at the Wychwood Barns Farmer’s Market, and a photo opportunity at the top of the stairs at Casa Loma. Light flurries which started about half way through our hike reminded us that winter was on its way. Thank you to this great group of urban hikers for coming out and participating in this event.

Event finances: 2 badges sold and $3 in event donations for a total of $43
