What a difference a year makes! This year’s picnic was under sunny skies, with a very large turnout, and many fire lighting implements. We were located on a secluded spot on Olympic Island, where you couldn’t tell there were tens of thousand people nearby watching the dragon boat races. People began arriving around 12:30 pm, with most there by 2:00 or 3:00. Erik took charge of the barbecue, cooking up a storm for many hours. The potluck was great success, with all kinds of salads, meats, desserts, and other delights. We raised $505 for our Blue Skies and Rocky Lakes project, which is a community outreach initiative that will provide a backcountry camping trip to Algonquin Park for recent immigrants to Canada. Once everyone ate and all the draw prizes were handed out, some of us stayed to watch the sunset and sit by the fire. The last of our group left the Islands at about 10 pm.
