Rouge River Valley was my first coordinated event, and it could not have happened if Erik had not graciously agreed to attend as my 'stand in' sponsor so first off, I have to say "thanks" to Erik for coming along and to Linda for letting him :-) Onto the real good stuff. The weather was perfect - sunny in the mid 20's with very little humidity - we couldn't have asked for a better day! This was my first visit to the Rouge River Valley Conservation Area, and it far exceeded my expectations. The hike was truly lovely. Not too challenging with just a few steep ascents/descents, and it meandered between mixed forest and open areas with many great views of the river and the creek. Despite its proximity to the city, it was not as busy as one would expect on such a beautiful day. I think everyone enjoyed themselves immensely, and there were lots of great picture opportunities. The best part of the hike though was the participants. We had a fantastic group of 12! I could not have asked for a better group of people for my first event. So thank you to each and every one of you for coming out. I hope to see you on the trail very soon! Julianne P.S. - For the record, we hiked exactly 12km at an average moving pace of 4.1 km/hr.
