Departing Kennedy Station at 2:30 PM, we had three cars, and twelve people, for our trip to Peterborough. Conversation on the drive was lively and we almost solved a few world issues…!! Traffic was good and finding Rotary Park was straightforward. We went for an 8 K hike along the Otonabee River and Big Lake and also went over a canal lock, that was operated manually. We asked if Kayaks were allowed through the lock and we were told yes… an idea for a future event. After our hike we went to dinner at Hot Belly Mama’s Cajun Restaurant on George St. The décor was interesting but the service was slow. There was a mixed reaction to the food; some enjoyed their meal and some did not. The roti was excellent. After dinner we hiked back to Rotary Park, only to discover that the Dusk Dancing was cancelled due to rain. It was raining at the 7:30 PM start time but not at 8 PM. The stage was wet, however, and risky for the dancers. We went back to the cars and it was eventually decided that two drivers with passengers returned to Toronto and one stayed behind to further enjoy the area. The drive back to Toronto had mixed weather, from stretches where there had been no rain and the road was dry, to others where it rained very hard and we had to slow down some. All-in-all, while it was disappointing that the Dusk Dancing was cancelled, it was very nice to get out of Toronto, experience another place, and spend time with others who enjoyed nature. Many thanks to our drivers. $8 was collected in donations.
