When I posted this event a month ago during a long, hot summer's day, I had visions of a pleasant, sunny fall weekend in Algonquin. And as the song goes "You don't always get what you want".!
The weekend wasn't a total wash though (well, my car might disagree!) Friday we all arrived on time to the car pool at Downsview, and set out on a very lovely start to the weekend!
But rather than a play by play of the whole weekend, I'm going to go with some of my more memorable highlights:
- Walking a few feet to the beach and watching the celestial sky and milky way on Friday after dinner. (Thanks Universe!)
- A warming and mesmerizing fire on Friday eve. (Thanks Saran!)
- Getting rained on in the girl's tent on Friday night (Thanks Asiaq)
- Sitting down to lunch after two hikes and over an hour of tarp hanging/ ropes/ knots/ stakes / moving furniture ... all just in time for the rain to return (but foiled again haha!) (Thanks EVERYONE!)
- Flush toilets, sinks, and warm-air hand dryers in the loos! (Thanks Algonquin Park)
- Booth's Rock Trail with no rain and a stunning view of the lake where we could almost see our own site (did we REALLY climb up that high!?!) (Hey girls, don't miss out on that one next time)
- A delicious dessert (and trail snack)! (I really should have hidden that other half under the seat with my sunglasses) (Thanks Joerg! )
- The awe-inspiring moments watching someone swim from one side of the lake and back in cold, cold water after a night where the temperatures got to around 1°C. (Ende, you scared some of us but thanks for making it there AND BACK! Wow, you are amazing!)
- The fun times, like when Tracy, who while decked out in a rather hilarious blue rain poncho, told the rest of us that she didn't wear her gloves with the fur cuz she didn't want to look ridiculous. (Ah, a classic for the archives!)
- The smile on Darlene's face when those ribs appeared in front of her at the restaurant. (I hope you did bring the leftovers into work today for lunch!)
