Write Up:
The weekend gave us a cool greeting Saturday with cloud cover and steady rains into the early evening. It was a nice refreshment in the end, however, as our walk in turned out to be the more difficult, even if it was shorter, route. Dinner was all the more interesting for the occasional passing shower having us hide under nearby trees.
Sunday brought clear skies and lots of sun, as we headed out in various directions for hiking, relaxing, and a canoe rental. Matt discovered an historic grave nearby, circa 1943, while scrambling on the rocky hillsides, and generally getting lost. Mark, Monica, and Sarah had a full day walking back to the park proper, finding a canoe rental, and then paddling through the islands on the way back to our shoreline retreat. Hanna, Delara, Michelle, and Teresa visited the large floating Slim Bay Bridge. With much disappointment, no one did any cliff jumping, it was unfortunately a little too far away.
The water was quite warm, and very comfortable for swimming, which some of us took advantage of. There was also an obvious infestation of zebra mussels. So watch your feet! The attendance of nearby cottagers, and their motorboats was also apparent, though Sunday evening eventually became extremely quiet, and very dark with excellent star views. Monday morning the Loons emerged from hiding and cruised our shoreline with many calls at short range.
