Write Up:
The day began with hostess JennP short on sleep, thanks the revelries of President Steph's all-night birthday pary, enjoyed the night before. But quickly, the turkey was seasoned and prepared, and the day's cooking had begun. In to the oven it went. Several hours later (during which the hostess cleaned her new house), the stuffing was done, and the first of "The First Annual TOC Orphan's Thanksgiving Dinner" guests arrived. First, was Veronica, a lovely woman whom I had dined with once before at Grazie on a previous TOC event. Ladden with delicious apple spice cake, she was gracious enough to play hostess while I finished with the turkey and made some (hiddeous) gravy. She welcommed Mi Young, who had brought with her some Korean delights traditionally eaten during the Korean Thanksgiving. The hour was upon us, and guests were arriving in quick succession, all ladden with delicious food. Perkin was so kind as to bring a wonderful green bean casserole, with the beloved fried onion topping. Steph provided the traditional dessert of pumpkin pie. JennP cooked a moist turkey, some tasty stuffing, and some congeled gravy. Mi Young: traditional Korean thanksgiving fare Saif: his famously sweet Pineapple upside-down cake. Lorie: Slightly spicy black-eyed peas and rice Alana: homemade biscuits and a delicous casserole Katherine: a delicious vegetarien quiche, and sweet potatoes Marie: a wonderfully garlic-y caesar salad Grant: traditional mashed potatoes and some candied yams Two dear souls also provided us with wine, though i appologize for i do not recall who they were. We sat down for dinner near 6:30, and ate until we could eat no more. And then there was dessert. And then there was coffee. Though unfortunately I was not able to speak with most of my guests, I truly hope you felt welcomed in my new home. Thanks to all for preparing food and helping get it all on the table. Hopefully I have started a TOC tradition that will continue for years to come. Thanks to all for making it a great evening.
