Write Up:
It was certianly a chilly weekend! While the weather was projected to be fairly temperate, upon arriving on Friday night at our frist campsite, it became clear that the weather network had lied. Blowing and driving snow made setting up camp in the private campground particularly difficult, and cooking of any sort impossible. Satuday morning we headed into Sydnham to have a hearty breakfast and plan our route. We made our way into Frontenac Provincial Park and set off for our campsite. After several hours of hiking in variable temperatures and states of weather, we arrived at our overexposed campsite. Oh, the biting wind! It was extremely cold blowing in off the lake, and we made a strategic move to a mearby site for our cooking needs, slightly more sheltered from the elements. After a short hike to a lookout point, we returned to basecamp and began to prepare our dinner. Obtaining fresh water from the lake was not meant to be, as several of us attempted for hours to hack a hole in the ice surface. the ice was over 2 feet thick. We spent a cold night huddled in our tents, and made a break for more sheltered regions early in the morning before even eating breakfast. After a quick meal on the trail in some bright sunlight, we continued on our way, overjoyed to finally see our cars and wrmth ahead. On our way out of town, we cone again stopped in Sydnham to eat another warm meal. Cold though it was, still and enjoyable adventure!
