A hearty gang of five intrepid cyclists set off from Rouge Hill GO station at 11am. Unlike the others who were scared off by the weather forecast (a high of 7c and a chance of showers) YP, Chris, Mike, Marilyn and I (David) set out undeterred!

As it turned out, the weather was better than the forecast. We had no rain showers and just the occasional snowflake to deal with. Oh, there was also the strongish wind out the north.

The trip toward Whitevale was slow, because it was mostly up hill AND against the wind. And as we rode into Whitevale we were happy to see that the ice cream stand was open. Well, it was a bit cold eating ice cream. Happily, they also sold hot dogs, hamburgers, French fries, hot drinks and yummy chili! After a good, if cool lunch stop, Chris returned back to Rouge Hill, while the rest of us continued north to try riding on the dirt concession roads north of Highway 7. The dirt roads turned out to be very much rideable for all of us. At the corner of North Road and Pickering Concession 7 we decided against making a side trip to Claremount, since this would have extending our trip by 20km. We will do that trip in the not too distant future!

Instead we headed west and back toward the GO station. Since we hard gravity and the wind working with us, we went way faster and with less effort on our return trip south. The sun even peaked out every now and them. We got back to Rouge Hill by around 3:30pm. Mike and Marilyn made use of the TTC bus’ bike rack and got on to the Lawrence East bus to head to their home, while YP and I waited for the Westbound GO to Union Station.

All in all, everyone had a good time!
