Event Coordinator(s): Jo
Participants:Welah, Carmen, Hanna, Jo, Cindy B, Prashanth Suntha

Write Up:

This was a very pleasant evening walk, although we didn't really walk that far at all! We basically did a circle around the ROM building as our guide pointed out buildings and features of interest. There was so much to see in that circle that we really didn't mind and the time passed quickly. We heard about the history of the ROM building and the new crystal being built on Bloor St.; the old "Household Science"/Club Monaco building; the second oldest Anglican church in Toronto; the gates to Philosophers Walk; the Royal Conservatory renovations; the Hyatt Park Plaza hotel; and the Law buildings among others. Philosophers Walk is an oasis of tranquility near two busy streets!

We welcomed new member Hanna on her first (hopefully of many!) TOC events. We found out that Montreal (or perhaps only McGill) is indeed a small city, as Carmen and Hanna found they had friends in common. Hanna and Prashanth also recognized each other as members of the U of T Outing Club, which counts several dual citizens (TOC/UTOC) among its members. Welah and Hanna conversed in French and made plans to get together for a francophone evening. Cynthia, now an official "Amateur Photographer" with very professional business cards, took many photos, which we hope she'll post in our online album.

After the walk, Carmen, Hanna, Prashanth and Jo went in search of crepes. Unfortunately, the supposedly-very-good crepe place on Bedford closes at 6, so we ended up at the Regal Beagle beside the Bata Shoe Museum at Bloor and St. George. (If you are searching for Christian Scientist services, look no further than the Shoe Museum - really!) The food at the Beagle was...well, not great, but it was a good place to sit outdoors for a while and talk.

Once again, we enjoyed a ROMwalk and will certainly do another one.
