Write Up:
Community dinner, a subway ride, and then Friday night skate was the order of the night.

Dinner was delicious, as always. Some ate venison enchiladas; others enjoyed the vegetarian BBQ black beans and mashed potatoes. Still others loved the chocolate cake for dessert!

We weren't all able to find a table together for the meal, so we mostly sat and talked in smaller groups of 2 or 3 with the food perched in plates on our laps. Many people hadn't heard that Dufferin Grove offers Friday night suppers, so were quite happy to discover this good, inexpensive food.

After dinner, we had a decision to make. The warmer weather this week had way-laid our well-made plans to go skating at Dufferin Grove Park; the same locale as our fabulous meal. The ice conditions weren't ideal at Dufferin Grove, so they had just closed most of their outdoor rink for the season earlier that very same day. There was a tiny strip of ice that was still available for skating, so some tried it, but it was bumpy and small.

We weren't completely surprised though; the group were advised by e-mail earlier in the week that there was a small possibility that the ice might be too soft for skating that Friday because of the weather. Everyone was still asked to bring their skates, and a sense of flexibility!

And, flexible everyone was. We took a vote, and about half the group decided to head over to the Harbourfront Centre for skating. (There, the rink has many underground coolers to help keep the ice ideal for skating.) Some others decided to stay at Dufferin Grove, and continue skating there.

So, a subway ride later, many of us ended up downtown at the Harbourfront Centre, and skated to music by the lake. The flexibility was key to a great evening.

Oh, and several of us had a good laugh -- we really wanted quality ice, so it was one of the only nights that we wished it might have been just a bit colder, and that the warm weather could hold off for a bit. No worries, though; those wishes are over, and the warmer weather is welcome at anytime!
