Sun, Jan 17 2010 - Last Minute Urban Hike-Toronto Central Ravines and Belt Line (View Original Event Details)

Event Coordinator(s): Min C
Participants:Min C, Daniel Parker, Fletcher, Don M, Nihar, Kathy Fletcher

Write Up:
After meeting and greeting at Eglinton West station, six TOC members braved through the Beltline with icy patches. The Beltline is popular with joggers, a few of whom were out, in spite of the slippery condition. The slippery conditions reminded us of the importance of wearing appropriate footwear at this time of year.

Everyone was going at a good pace including Kathy, her second event with TOC, obviously her daily walking paid off. Daniel with his long legs walked effortlessly throughout the hike. Two of my strides are equal to one of his, as Nahir pointed out, I probably got a better workout than Daniel though. As for Don, he found part of the Ravine colder than other sheltered by trees, but that didn't stop him from keeping up with Daniel. At Mount Pleasant cemetery, we found the grave site of William Lyon Mackenzie King who held the prime ministership for Canada for more than twenty-one years, making him the longest-serving prime minister.

Considering the icy conditions and that we finished the hike in 2.5 hours, it was a nice hike at a good pace.
