Wow! What an amazing warm and sunny day to spend on a completely deserted river still within earshot of major roadways.

The flood diversion project in the original Bolton village required us to portage and wade, (unfortunately the water was ice cold.) After that we had several hours of nearly continuous swifts and rock gardens, with the occasional sweeper and some slightly faster chutes. Even as some portions passed near enough to the surrounding roads to get traffic noise, the shores were an even flood plain, open forest, or steep bank cuts.

At lunch Matt E demonstrated starting a fire using dried grass and a flint striker. Later Priya showed off her brute strength by breaking the handle off her paddle. One wonders what she can do in real moving water!

Gary helpfully recorded a GPS track of this section. Those images are available in the photo album. We spent 5 hours 45 minutes on the river, including an hour at lunch, and travelled a total distance of 27.6 kms. It was a very full day.
