9 eager participants met at Kipling Subway, on time! After introductions, we too off to St. Catherines. We made a brief pit stop in the town of Jordan and continued on to Short Hills Provincial Park. We reviewed the trail map and gave some thoughts to our day hike.

Following the Bruce Trail through the park, we continued to Decrew Falls and grounds of an old turn of the century flour grinding mill. Continuing along the Bruce Trail over looking St. Catherines and Brock University, we hiked along Lake Gibson water reserve before returning to the provincial park.

Upon returning to the park we met some horse back riding folks and cautiously watched the horses trying to cross a small wooded bridge. After a short pre-lunch stop along the trail, we continued hiking on some side trials. We were fortunate to come across a beautiful field of flowers(whites, pinks, purples) and all took lots of pictures. We eventually came across our lunch stop - the faint remains of a lush waterfall (3 weeks earlier the water fall was at high volume). We had a leisurely, sunny lunch for half hour.

After lunch we crossed a creek and continued on 2 other side trails, one of which had a steep climb! At around 2:30 we collectively decided not to do another section of the hike, but enjoy our way out of the park and continue to watch the many beautiful “short hills” and lovely flowers and streams.

At some point along the end of the hike, we were treated to a brief demonstration of Shannon’s very “provocative” dancing skills.

At the last long “Short Hill” at the end of the hike, Victor did his usual mad dash to the finish and we actually made it to the finish line at 3:30pm

Our day ended with a pub stop in the town of Port Dalhousie.

There are some things money can buy. For everything else, there’s Toronto Outdoor Club.

A bright sunny spring day in a provincial park with lots of flowers, lots of birds singing, no bugs or mud, great company and conversation, pub social after, and the most endearing picture ever take of me kissing my fiancee in a field of flowers on my first TOC event... priceless!

Thank you Victor for being my sponsor for my first “official” TOC event!
