Heat! Humidity! Smog! Traffic! Noise! If you can't get out of the city where can you go to avoid all that and still get some peace and quiet? The Toronto islands, perhaps one of the best kept semi secrets Toronto has to offer. There were estimates of 25,000 people expected to head for the islands for the annual Dragon Boat races, but outside of centre island you would have hardly known it was a busy summer weekend. Alan, Linda and I enjoyed the wide bike paths, the cool fresh breeze blowing off the water onto the boardwalk, the cute cottages and gardens of the cottages on Ward's and Algonquin island...we stopped for a quick tour of Centreville (we have plenty of childhood memories on the rides there) and finally back to Hanlan's point to hop back on the ferry. We passed on the clothing optional beach

A better way to spend a few hours away from the city, while still in the city, the island has been one of my favourite places to go as a child and it remains as wonderful now as it was back then...
