Conflicting temperature reports had us all wearing lots of layers. Nobody complained though and we made it for the 1030AM ferry without incident. As the ferry neared the Island dock Woody began to strain at her leash knowing the good times lay ahead.

We started out by exploring the beautiful houses that form the Ward's Island community. Then we checked out the failed Rochester Ferry terminal from across the lake. A stroll along the boardwalk headed West showed that Dima is a very skilled bike rider regardless of the surface (ice, snow, both). Emily countered by showing her snow angel making technique and taking on a snowy kid's slide.

The group passed the haunted lighthouse, the abandoned trout pond, and the empty expanses of beaches with no polar bear 'dippers' in sight.

At Hanlan's Point we check out a statue wearing short shorts, ate a quick snack, and started on back. A planned exploration of the fabled hedge maze was nixed due to massive snowbanks so we admired its leafy walls from a distance.

Then it was a jaunt back to the Rectory for some while others strolled a bit longer. We all grabbed the same ferry back to town and talked about what a great time the winter is for an Island walk.

Of us all, Woody definitely covered the most ground with spirited squirrel pursuits that, thankfully, didn't yield any rewards other than good exercise. Both she and I fell asleep on the bus home.
