Write Up:

I defy anyone to stay with this write-up to the very end.. .. ..

As my body wearies, I feel it's time to go inward, to attempt more intellectual pursuits. And it's hard to take a simple concept like throwing a ball down a lane and knocking stuff over with it, and turn it into something mind-warpingly complicated. But here goes:

Setting (confusing?) the record straight as to why I called it Bowling for Collards: Cryptic crossword clue #1: Behead and chew up cabbages down 4 lanes of a TV Show: _ _ _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _ _ *

Yeah, you think about that, and in the meantime:

Thanks to Darrel - who heard the cry for toe socks(!) and brought some funkaliscious red ones and was, of course, the top bowler of the night! He was followed closely and frighteningly at times, by Brooke who deigned (for our benefit) to stand up, glance in the general area of the pins and nonchalantly (I think she yawned on a few occasions in her back swing) toss the ball down the lane. This resulted - more often than not - in a strike! I'm glad Darrel was there to challenge her. Pete also gave her a run for the money, and helped keep Darrel on his toe socks too. (Noooooo, I didn't say that!)

Desiree was given the coolest day-glo pink and yellow shoes to wear and it helped her game (It's all about what's on your feet, I tell ya!). Lucy discovered the two handed method of ten pin bowling and got a really good rhythm going but might not be standing up straight today?! Cordelia developed the best side-winder approach (with a few really good dance steps in between) that I have EVER seen and she got a picture perfect strike out of it! Kwan and I (both wearing Hanes socks) WEREN'T charged with any property damage and I think we both felt good about that.

We discovered there are many interpretations of Bowling for Collards, probably as many as there are people. And bowling isn't just about knocking over pins. It's about wearing other people's shoes, and....other people's hair....

Many thanks to this great, fun, go-along group!

For those TOC crossword purists - and you know who you are! - that might want to question this: Please send all complaints, arguments, disputes or challenges to cynthia@torontooutdoorclub.com.

I think we all agree that the cryptic crossword "formula" is far too easy anyway. (Again...talk to Cynthia...!) But, I say, if you're going to puzzle people, then PUZZLE THEM already, damn it! Have I? [None of this nonsense was in anyway intended to distract anyone from pertinent questions as to my actual bowling abilities.]

Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you.
