Carrie Bradshaw: [shrieks as she picks up a pair of shoes] Oh my God! Do you know what these are? Manolo Blahnik Mary Janes! I thought these were an urban shoe myth!

Well we didn't find those mythical shoes, however we did see some pretty fancy footwear in any case. The building itself has been around since 1995 and its design was inspired by the simple shoebox.

Inside 4 floors have a wide range of shoes on display. Everything from the very earliest examples to the latest styles. My favourites were Terry Fox's running shoe and the clogs with built-in roller skates.

Another cool, temporary, exhibit is all about ballet shoes. There we tried to replicate the various foot positions with the aid of a big mirror and a helpful template. Nobody sustained any serious injuries and I have even more respect for dancers that can do 'pointe'.
