Beautiful weather greeted us this morning as did tasty Timbits brought by James, the FODE co-coordinator. A small, but enthusiastic group of tree planters learned the proper techniques for digging and inserting of the materials to be planted. All the required stuff was provided including stylish gardening gloves and cool compost mats that form a base layer to help protect the tree from competing vegetation.

We were also given plastic sleeves that help to dissuade predators from munching on the freshly planted vegetation. And, despite the fact that most people in our group were novices, we were soon tearing through (figuratively) the remaining plants and just a few were left by the end of the event for a paid team to finish off.

Kudos to the TOC crew. They all brought boundless energy and good humour to a physically demanding event. The trees thank you and more importantly so do the people of Toronto. You've helped make our city an even better place to live in.
