What a gorgeous day for a bike ride! We met at Balzac's Cafe at the Distillery District and Daniel immediately got one of their amazing coffees. The rest of the group was already sufficiently caffeinated, so off we went on our bikes. We set a leisurely pace along Cherry Beach and made it to the Spit (or Tommy Thompson Park, as Barry pointed out) in no time. I was worried about scheduling a ride on the Spit so early in the year as it is usually quite windy and cool, but it was actually quite warm and not too breezy. The sunshine was really wonderful and the city's skyline looked great. As Lourita pointed out, you don't get to see the city's skyline from that angle very often as 99% of the pictures you see are taken from the island. Everyone was so happy to be on their bike again after a long winter! We made it to the lighthouse at the tip of the Leslie St. Spit and stopped a while to take in the moment and just enjoy the early Spring weather and fresh air. On the way back we stopped off at the Timmy's at Leslie and Lakeshore for a coffee and snacks and more great conversation. It was fascinating to learn about John's sailing and many, many outdoor interests (we're hoping he becomes a TOC volunteer!!). Daniel's Kite Surfing and Barry and Lourita's many adventures hiking around the GTA (they've been everywhere!!) I can't wait for more nice weather and nice rides with nice people. It's just... well, nice!
