|
Despite what was going on in the rest of the province we had amazing sunny weather all through the long weekend (and some truly great views of the night sky).
As with last year we camped out privately; which for us meant lots of space to spread out, and no worries about disturbing our neighbours. (As a 'Thank You' to Justin's Grandmother -- who owns the land -- we took a collection to order flowers.)
Lacking Hans Christian Andersen (though he was invited) to do this write up, I think rather than spinning an awkward narrative I'll just list some random items. (These are Andrew-centric, I can't help it. :) Sincere apologies for missing things.)
- Friday Justin led us on one of his famous midnight hikes. (Did it just change to midnight? "Yep." Okay you're done.)
- There were two small, fluffy, heroic dogs in attendance (Simba and Charlie) and also the friendly cat who visited us last year. (After going to bed, still looking for attention, the cat came to paw at our tents.)
- Virna and Victor both dance well. (This is apparently a natural side effect of growing up in South America!)
- There was a 'for blood' mini-putting tournament conducted, complete with hubris and upsets! :) (Christina won the day I believe)
- Peter, Justin, and Judith made the most of the weekend by leaving at *7am* Friday morning.
- Someone may have locked their keys in their trunk at 3:30am. This potential someone may have been me. (Luckily Kathryn can get a door jimmy'd in about 30 minutes.)
- In an effort to prove what ultimate outdoors-people we are, a few members of the group went to the nearby Sauble Speedway to take in the Sunday night race.
- Justin, Fanny, Paige, and Cordelia had a 7+ hour hike with the dogs. (They like to blame the length on me and my crew, but I say they should take some personal responsibility!)
- Judith and Anna found an impressive number of both raspberries and blackberries on our hike. (They shared their caches too ;)
- Cordelia can define false dichotomies, staw man attacks, and pick apart arguments into their base prepositions. (And had an exam on Monday to prove it.)
- Fanny, Victor, and I discovered that 2 out of 3 people are heavier than water. Maybe our sample size was too small.
- The night sky was without cloud or moon and we had a picture perfect view of the stars
- For the 17 attendees we had *12* tents, which I think implies something about an anti-social bent amongst the trip participants :)
- Joe and Victor both were in some promotional pictures for the TOC (the ladies may have been involved in these as well.)
- No one would dig Dave a cat hole. (Even the cat demured.)
- Some people snore. I suppose that's inevitable. Having potato chips sprinkled around our tents wasn't however... :)
- I definitely have a couple of bruises from catching the football passes of both Anna and David. Neither were interested in giving the gentle arcing throws I delivered. (David won our passing contest. Curses.)
- Ruhee, Jennifer, and Fanny sat under Sauble Falls looking quite content!
- We found a nearby party of other campers with live music to crash! Quite a few went and had a lot of fun.
- I had never seen a coffin shaped tent before Paige's
- Victor, Jennifer and Virna took a few Charlie's Angels-esque photos on the beach
- Two words: Foam Party!
