Write Up:
The rains abated and we even had some sunshine during our walks to and from Oak Lake on the Western Uplands Trail. The creeks were full but not overflowing, the trail was muddy, hilly, and surprisingly difficult. Hopefully Dirk learned his lesson and will remember to bring proper boots from now on. By evening the insects finally gave up their onslaught and we had a number of quiet hours around the campfire for bonding in the endless quiet. As seems typical now, no moose sightings were made while actually in the backcountry, instead there were two along the highway, one big bull being right out in the open ditch. There was some brief excitement in the removal of leeches earned during a wilderness swim, and for the organiser anyway, this weekend returned him with the look of a chickenpox patient.
