An excellent trip was had by all, especially Trixie who participated in her first ever camping trip and went on her first ever hike.

The day started less than auspiciously when the rear lights on my trailer refused to come on. We started out a little late to get some groceries, and then I futtzed about with a screwdriver, some insulating tape and a red pill-bottle until we were good to go.

So, at around 10:00 pm we set out, and headed north. Sudden snow squalls obliterated the road now and again, and we were held up by some accident for about 1/2 an hour on the 400. Going through HWY 60 was quite surreal, with driving snow, very few cars and near silence. However, we arrived safely at around 2:00 am.

We setup tent and trailer without incident, and were all abed by 3:00 am.

Unfortunately, Christoff was cold that night, and deserted us to join the Wolf Pack for the second night. The rest of us were snug enough, and Rocky and Trixie were so frisky they decided to open the trailer and go exploring without us that morning, greeting other campers with loud hellos.

After the park ranger gave us a stern warning, the energetic folks from the Wolf Den joined us for a hike along the abandoned railway trail past Lake of Two Rivers. We walked about 6 or 7 km out and back, enjoying the tranquil Algonquin scenery, spotting occasional signs of the Beefalo on the way back.

The next day, Chris, Alex, myself, and Katherine and Mihal from the Den met again to do the Highland Trail, which was an excellent though tricky hike (slippery patches and thin ice over numerous small streams/bogs). Rocky enjoyed himself thoroughly. Steph, Ping and Jason enjoyed their own Hike along the Track and Tower trail with Trixie.

All in all a fun time.
