We didn't end up with as many as we started with (9), but that's what happens with an urban walk! (and I really hope I get everyone's names right...)
Two new TOCers joined the epic "half marathon" hike today. And they both had a lot to offer our group. Francine lived really close to the starting point, so she was able to get us to where the Toronto marathon had officially started, and around the tricky Yonge St. / 401 'pedestrian detour'! And Cori set the pace for us. She was worried in the beginning that she might not make it the whole way, but she not only hung in to the very, very end, she also was the fastest of the group, and kept us all going no matter how tired our dogs were getting! Thanks Francine and Cori!!
Lisa was the first to drop out, but not because she couldn't have made it, it was more a matter of "if I just keep going in *this* direction, I'll be home again!" ;)
Special thanks to Betsy for getting us thru the trails so as not to endanger the group on that Bayview stretch.
Moira and then Betsy also left the pack just a little early.
When we all finally got to Wellington and Yonge, the gps told us we were almost at 20 KM already. Obviously the Yonge/401 detour, and the trails added a bit of mileage onto the original route! We (except Francine... bye, see you next time!) opted to walk up Yonge st instead of continuing on to University and then up. At Queen, Diane and Karen went their separate ways, and then there were 3. We were off to Dundas to finish the half marathon! But then Mary got a call and had to head off in another direction, meaning her walking day would be MORE than the requisite 21.1 km! Wooo Mary! Cori and I made 21.1 just about the time we hit the escalator going down to the subway.
An awesome day, and GIRLS ROCK! :) Thanks everyone for coming out today. I am beat, but it was worth it.
p.s. the ec.gc.ca says it only got to 18C today. I think we were all just motoring so well, it *seemed* hotter. And, according to the gps, our "moving average" was 6.5 km/hr!
